Magificent Uncle

By admin | February 15, 2011

Kind actions may not seem to carry much staying power, but consider this. On Valentine’s Day, a dear family friend told me the secret to her beloved aunt and uncle’s inspiring marriage. “My uncle would say people need to keep doing what they did when they met each other. They need to keep wooing each other. He would routinely bring my aunt flowers. Before she could even get finished asking how his day was, he would interrupt and ask about hers. He adored her, and she never had to guess about his feelings, or where his priorities stood. Their marriage was an inspiration until she died.” This Magnificent Uncle may have thought only his wife was affected by his actions. But they rippled out to a person who had never met him, through a niece whose story brought tears to my eyes on a day when we honor the beauty of love in all forms. If you think loving acts of kindness mean little, and their impact fleeting, think of the Magnificent Uncle. His actions have spanned decades, miles, and relationships far beyond their seemingly unheralded beginnings-so will yours.
