Music Man-gel
By admin | July 27, 2010
Sunday was a crazy busy day capping off a non-stop week. I wondered what could recharge me before a 4 o’clock family party. “Jack! That’s it. Without a doubt, Jack’s music will charge me up”, the voice of my intuition chimed in. Immediately, a sense of calm settled over me as I left a voice message at his office requesting a quick concert. Jack had a talent for chanting and playing quartz bowls. The bowls are like giant crystal goblets. When played, you hear and feel the vibration of rich instrumental tones. Maybe the best way to describe their effect is a “musical message”.
Happily, he had a window of about an hour that afternoon. Jack generously offered to share his talents as long as a couple of other people showed up for the concert.
Arriving a few minutes early for my harmonic intervention gave me time to thank Jack for his kindness. While chatting, he informed me that several people were staying after the completion of an 1130 class at his center to listen in. Our “improv” session was a go. “I’m a bit tired, but I love you Marjorie”, Jack commented. “For you, I am happy to do this. I always think of my mom when I think of you.”
I shared his mother’s first and middle names which cemented our friendship. That afternoon , his comments alone nearly brought tears to my eyes. Not only had my friend made room in his own busy day, he had treated me like a treasured sister. A little blue box from Tiffany’s would not have been as dear. Music at that point was icing on the cake-all because of my long time friend, and music man-gel, Jack’s bighearted actions.
A day that had begun on the tense side had transformed into pure magic. Thank you Jack!
